i-GAMING IN DC BY SPRING?

Washington, DC, could become the first jurisdiction in the US to offer online gaming as early as this spring, the Washington Post reported.

City Council is holding hearings on the framework for i-Gaming, which allows the DC agency to offer online poker, blackjack and slot games in limited regions around the district.

According to Councilmember Michael Brown, i-gaming could go live sometime this spring if the council decides to move forward.

The news comes as the Department of Justice removed a significant hurdle last month, saying the 1961 Wire Act only applies to sports betting over telephone lines.

Online gaming was approved in DC’s 2010 budget, which was unwittingly approved by Congress making it the first jurisdiction in the US where i-gaming was legalized.
