Family Travel Habits Revealed

When it comes to family vacations the most popular destination is beach and lake destinations, according to the Y-Partnership survey Portrait of American Travelers.

- STAYCATIONS. Family travelers are more likely to have taken a vacation that is less than 50 miles away from their homes.

- LAST MINUTE TRIPS. 31 percent took trips approximately 6 days after deciding to do so.

- CELEBRATION VACATIONS. 69 percent took vacations to celebrate life events, such as milestone birthdays and anniversaries.

- CHILDREN’S INPUT. In 48 percent of house holds children play an active role in planning vacations.

- VACATION HOMES. 24 percent have used vacation rentals as an alternative to hotels, while 14 percent are interested in purchasing a vacation home and 7 percent are interested in purchasing a timeshare.

- DESTINATIONS. The destinations families are most interested in visiting include: Neighbor Islands of Hawaii, national parks, Honolulu and Orlando.
