Rhode Island voters should have had to approve sports betting via referendum since it is a new type of gambling as dictated by state law, according to a suit seeking to stop sports betting, the Providence Journal reported.

The suit seeks an injunction to shut down both of Twin Rivers’ sportsbooks and to invalidate recently approved legislation to legalize online sports betting.

Gov. Gina Raimondo has argued voters did approve sports betting because they earlier passed a referendum authorizing Class III gaming.

Aristocrat’s Flame 55 remained the top ranked premium video cabinet in March, indexing at 3.47 times zone average, according to the EILERS-FANTINI Monthly Cabinet Performance Report.

ALL’s Helix XT is also number one in the portrait segment.

Scientific Games’ TwinStar Stepper was the best performing mechanical reel, indexing at 1.33 times zone average. The TwinStar V75 cabinet improved its performance to 2.53 times.

Macau’s hotel guests and visitors on package tours rose in March.

The number of hotel guests grew 3.2 percent to 1.186 million with an average occupancy of 90.7 percent, up 1.7 points over last year.

Average stay held steady at 1.4 nights. The total of Mainland Chinese hotel guests rose 8.2 percent to 835,000 and those from South Korea increased 11.0 percent to 45,000.

The number of guests from Hong Kong fell 20.9 percent to 104,000 while guests from Taiwan decreased 5.8 percent to 37,000.

Through March, the total of hotel guests is up 4.5 percent to 3.516 million.

Twin River will issue $950 million in debt to repay existing debt and return $250 million in capital to shareholders.

Keith Foley of Moody’s gave Twin River a B1 corporate family credit rating citing debt-to-EBITDA below four times and the expectations the company will continue its strong performance in Rhode Island in the face of Wynn Encore near Boston, opening in June.

He also expects TRWH to generate $80 million in cash flow.
