This is What a Proposed a $1B Dollar Casino, Entertainment Complex Could Look Like at Atlanta Motor Speedway

My comment:

Atlanta certainly has the population to support a first class racetrack casino but as I have commented before, a destination casino in downtown Atlanta will

1) create the kind of attraction that will increase new conventions and add more exhibitors and attendees to Atlanta's already booked conventions and trade shows;

2) increase occupancies and average rates, mid-week, of the city's nearly 100,000 hotel accommodations;

3) casino gaming will bring in many new weekend tourists (helping hotels who experience large declines in occupancies on Fridays and Saturdays without traveling businessmen and conventioneers), plus new customers for area restaurants and entertainment events;

4) increase attendance to the many major attractions and sporting events held in Atlanta;

5) [and best of all] casino revenue, likely over a billion dollars a year, will come primarily from conventioneers, visiting businessmen, and tourists, all looking for evening entertainment.

Casino, Horse Racing Reps Pitch Gambling to Georgia House Panel

My comment:

I am certainly not opposed to horse racing, but in a city with nearly 100,000 hotel rooms Atlanta's economy would benefit far more from a destination casino downtown. A horse racetrack will draw its audience primarily from the local market, with the exception of 4 major races, 3 of which are permanently located.

New Online Gambling Giant Could Harm State Lotteries and the Casino Industry

My comment:

The United States, over the past century, has developed the most complete destination resort casinos, in the world. Our many types of gaming have transcended from Reno, and Downtown Las Vegas, as well as illegal casinos in many states to where today, we have billion dollar mega resorts in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Maryland, Massachusetts and tribal casinos in California, Oklahoma, Florida, and Connecticut. But we also have riverboat casinos, dockside gaming, slots at racetracks, video gaming terminals at bars and truck stops, plus in Illinois where any business that can qualify for a liquor license. And let’s not forget the 47 states that also operate a lottery, supporting important programs, such as education.

Beale Pushes Game Plan to Expedite a Chicago Casino

My comment:

Any Chicago casino should be downtown, near the convention center and the larger hotels.

The 5 locations for the Chicago casino, proposed by Mayor Lightfoot, would attract most of their customers from the resident population, but the greatest tax potential for Chicago is a casino aimed at the city’s 57 million annual visitors, many staying at hotels in the Downtown Chicago area.
