A new president. A new administration. What do the election results mean for the gaming industry?

Some think President-elect Donald Trump’s casino history bodes well for the industry.

Others opine the Republican-heavy Congress and continued influence of anti-gaming legislators and Las Vegas Sands CEO Sheldon Adelson means no progress for online gaming and sports betting.

Adelson reportedly pledged $25 million in support of Trump’s campaign.

Will that be enough to bend the Trump administration in Adelson’s anti-online gambling favor? We’ll see.

American Gaming Association CEO Geoff Freeman said he’s optimistic the Trump administration will have significantly more restrained federal agencies than what the gaming industry has experienced in the past eight years.

Forms of online gambling are growing, if not through the opening of new Internet casino jurisdictions, then through state regulation of daily fantasy sports and online lottery sales.

This movement creates constituencies to oppose federal-level anti-online gaming attempts, some with big congressional delegations like New Jersey and Michigan.

Either way, 2017 will be another interesting year in gaming policy as states across the nation continue debating daily fantasy sports, sports betting, iGaming and online poker, plus potential land-based gaming expansions in places like Alabama, Florida and Georgia.
