Pennsylvania, Ohio Casinos Hammer West Virginia Profits | News, Sports, Jobs - The Intelligencer

My comment:

West Virginia, your plight is very similar to that of Atlantic City.

Except you missed at least 20 years of monopoly conditions, like that enjoyed in AC.

In the early 1980's, shortly after we opened Resorts International in Atlantic City, I worked with your Legislature on a bill that would have allowed slots at the West Virginia racetracks, and even spoke to community groups in the potential communities. But we were unsuccessful, with the perceived negatives of gaming still working against new jurisdictions. And West Virginia was very similar to Atlantic City in that we both depended on other state's population for most of our gaming revenues.

You're now in the same boat as AC; but missed years of opportunity.
