What Do the Numbers Tell Us About Atlantic City’s Growth in 2018?

My comment:

Most of the recent growth in New Jersey’s gaming has done little to increase visitation to Atlantic City. Until Pennsylvania opened their first Philadelphia sports betting parlors AC benefited from some new visitors.

Massachusetts: Lottery Could Handle Sports Betting, Treasurer Tells Legislators

My comment:

I'm shocked that Massachusetts would want to add sports betting, with its marginal profitability
of - in most states less than 1percent - for the 26.5 percent the state lottery keeps on various ticket sales. What happens to lottery programs if players switch their play from high profit lottery games, to marginal sports betting?

Even more damage will be done to lottery programs, if online gaming is approved in MA, and includes sports betting. If the state wants to compete with bookies and illegal overseas gambling sites, it would be better to add a limited number of sports betting parlors, offering superior game viewing, along with taxable food and beverage sales, and possibly adding a limited number of high taxed slots, centered in population centers that are more than a 30 minute drive to a live gaming facility. I expect that there will be little casino profit from e-sports competitions, but then AC can copy the Las Vegas Strip model, and make money from rooms, restaurants and night club revenues. I just hope these events are strong enough, that they can be scheduled mid-week, in the off season when AC badly needs overnight visitors.

Georgia Casino Backers, Landowners Bust In State Legislature’s Crossover Day

My comment:

Georgia is missing the boat, one that could fill the void in funding for the HOPE Scholarship programs.

If Georgia’s citizens are opposed to gambling, what is the state doing with a major lottery? But recent polls, seem to indicate that the residents want casino gaming, and if you look at the 90 flights a day from Hartsfield to Las Vegas (6 or 7 nonstop), I have to believe that many Georgians like to play at the tables and slots, and probably make illegal bets on various sporting events too.

Speaking of sports, I was the Atlanta Journal's youngest paper boy, at the end of the second World War, with GA Tech Coach, Bobby Dodd, on my route. I also went to Lovett's, when it was a country day school, and later enjoyed school years on Lookout Mt. and junior high in Columbus.
